Waste = Activities that consume resources but do not create value
Only activities that customers are willing to pay for are value-adding activities.
2. Waste 1: Overproduction
Overproduction
Definition: Producing more than the customer demands or producing earlier than required.
Common Manifestations:
- Producing in advance to keep "equipment running"
- Producing in large batches to "amortize changeover time"
- Inventory buildup due to inaccurate forecasts
- Unreasonable production plans leading to overproduction in the preceding process

- Compare with customer requirements to check for overprocessing

- Ask, "Is the customer willing to pay for this processing?"

- Optimize processes, merge or eliminate steps
- Set processing standards according to customer requirements

Inventory
Definition: Raw materials, work-in-progress, or finished goods that exceed customer demand.

- High finished goods inventory, leading to stagnant materials
- Excessively high safety stock levels
